About Poshmark

With so many online marketplaces and shopping apps available, it can be hard to know legit sites from scams. Let's take a closer look at Poshmark: is it a good option for frugal shoppers?

Poshmark is an online marketplace that allows users to buy and sell new and secondhand fashion items. Since its early days of operation in 2011, the company has become one of the most popular destinations for fashion lovers looking for a bargain.

Unlike other secondhand marketplaces, Poshmark offers a wide range of designer labels and high-end pieces, as well as mass market fashion, making it a favorite among thrifty shoppers.

In addition to clothing, Poshmark also sells accessories, jewelry, shoes, pet items, electronics, and beauty products.

With its easy-to-use interface and fast shipping times, Poshmark has revolutionized the way people shop for fashion and has become one of the most popular shopping destinations online.

Whether you're looking for a deal on your favorite designer label or hoping to find that perfect vintage piece, Poshmark is the place to start your search.

How Does Poshmark Work?

Users can create their own online storefront or "closet" which they can populate with items from their own personal collection. Check out our article with full details on how to sell on Poshmark.

Alternatively, users can browse the closets of other users and make purchases directly. Poshmark also provides a platform for users to host virtual "Posh Parties" where members of the community can come together to browse and shop for items.

Is Poshmark Legit?

While some users have raised concerns about the legitimacy of the site, Poshmark is a real company that is safe to use.

All payments on Poshmark are processed through a secure third-party system, and buyers are protected by a money-back guarantee.

In addition, Poshmark offers buyer protection against fraud and scams. As a result of these safety features, Poshmark is considered a safe and legitimate platform for buying and selling fashion items.

How Reliable is Poshmark?

The company has been in business for more than 10 years and is headquartered in Redwood City, California. Poshmark has been growing in popularity in recent years, especially among millennials who are looking for affordable fashion options. Poshmark takes several measures to ensure that all transactions are safe and trustworthy.

The site has a money-back guarantee for buyers. Plus, Poshmark encourages its community to report any listings that they think might not be authentic or compliant with the site's guidelines. Overall, Poshmark is a safe and easy way to find bargains on clothing and accessories.

Whenever listings are reported by our community, we ask certain community members to verify those reports via listing reviews. Your participation and feedback helps to keep Poshmark fun and safe for everyone!

Poshmark Website

Is Poshmark Legit as a Buyer?

When you find something you like on Poshmark, you can pay for it immediately or make an offer to the seller. If the seller accepts your offer on Postmark, they'll send you the item and Poshmark will take a cut of the sale price.

Is Poshmark Genuine?

Poshmark is a bit of a quirky company. On the one hand, it's a site where people can buy and sell new and used clothing. On the other hand, it's also a bit of a social media platform, allowing users to follow their favorite "poshers," comment on each other's listings, and other social commerce features.

So what's the verdict? Is Poshmark genuine?

Poshmark is a bit of an odd duck, but there's no denying that it has its appeal. People love the fact they can find gently used designer clothes at a fraction of the retail price. Even those who are not terribly active on the social media side of things enjoy being able to browse through other users' closets and see what they're selling.

All in all, Poshmark is a pretty neat company - quirky, yes, but genuine nonetheless.

Can You Get Your Money Back from Poshmark?

If your item never ships or if it does not match the listing description, Poshmark will give you a full refund. Poshmark always has your back, and you are guaranteed protection with every purchase.

Refund Policy

Poshmark doesn't release payment to the seller until the buyer confirms receipt of purchase and that it is as described. Shoppers have three days post-delivery to file a complaint on Poshmark's app or website, with photographs as evidence, if the item received was not accurately represented in the original listing.

If you submit a Poshmark claim which is upheld, they'll send you a label to return the order to the seller and receive a refund.

To be eligible for a refund, returns must be sent back within 5 days of approval.

Is Poshmark Overpriced?

In theory, Poshmark is a great way to save money on designer fashion, while also being a sustainable way to shop. By buying secondhand clothing, you're keeping clothing out of landfills and helping to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

But is it really as economical as it seems?

The short answer is, it depends.

On Poshmark, you can find some great deals, but you'll also find items that are overpriced.

It really varies from item to item, so it's important to do your research before making a purchase. You may discover some things that are priced above retail since sellers set the price. More on that later!

In general, though, Poshmark is a great place to find discounts on designer fashion. If you patiently browse, you can definitely find some great deals. Just don't expect to find everything for a bargain; that's not how secondhand shopping works.

What do Poshmark Reviews from Actual Shoppers Say?

If you're considering using Poshmark to buy clothing, you're probably wondering what other shoppers have to say about the experience. Overall, the reviews are not great. Poshmark has a Trustpilot customer rating of 1.4, which is BAD! 82% of reviews give the online marketplace a measly one-star rating. Yikes!

Poshmark hasn't responded to any of the negative reviews on Trustpilot, which is not a good sign.

The most common complaints seem to be with items not being as described and Poshmark siding with the vendor. Many customers complained that they received subpar items that were overpriced and that Poshmark rejected their complaint, leaving them unable to get a refund.

Another shopper points out that the listings never expire, so you could potentially buy an item from an inactive seller and then have to wait several days for your money to be refunded.

Is Poshmark Legit as a Seller?

The Poshmark app lets you snap a photo of your items, write a description, and set a price. When someone buys your item, you ship it to them and Poshmark takes a cut of the sale.

How Much Does It Cost to Sell on Poshmark?

Poshmark charges a $2.95 flat fee for any item you sell that is under $15. For items over $15, Poshmark charges a 20% commission. That means if you want to sell an item for $100, Poshmark will take $20 as their commission.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of packaging your item to ship it, although a pre-paid shipping label for vendors to print and send their goods via USPS is included in the charges.

Is Poshmark Ethical?

There is no easy answer when it comes to the ethics of Poshmark.

On the one hand, secondhand shopping is a great way to reduce your environmental impact and shop sustainably. On the other hand, some shoppers have had bad experiences with overpriced or substandard items.

If you're considering using Poshmark as a seller, we would recommend doing your research to be sure you're getting a fair price for your items.

Who Sets the Price on Poshmark?

The price is set by the seller.

Poshmark does not negotiate prices between buyers and sellers, although it does allow buyers to make you an offer.

How Do You Get Paid on Poshmark?

The great thing about Poshmark is that once your buyer has received their purchase from you, the money earned is all yours. You can either spend it in-app or withdraw it as cash whenever you please.

What Do Poshmark Reviews from Actual Sellers Say?

As we've seen, Poshmark's Trustpilot score is pretty abysmal. But what do Poshmark sellers have to say?

Positives

  • Can make good money
  • Flexible schedule
  • Easy to use

Negatives

  • Many buyers try to negotiate prices down
  • Poshmark takes a big cut of the sale
  • Selling can be time-consuming

Overall, it seems that Poshmark is a decent way to make some extra cash, but it's not without its drawbacks. The biggest complaints seem to be about the high fees and time commitment required to sell on the platform.

Poshmark Alternatives

If you're not convinced that Poshmark is the right platform for you, there are plenty of other options out there.

Mercari

Mercari is an online marketplace similar to Poshmark with a few key differences. The platform charges a 10% fee for each sale, rather than Poshmark's 20%, although they do charge a payment processing fee and you'll also need to pay your own shipping charges.

They have a wide range of categories, including electronics and home goods, in addition to fashion.

Depop

Depop is another popular option, particularly among young people. It's a bit more stylized than Poshmark or Mercari (we also investigated to find out if Mercari is legit), and has a strong focus on fashion and streetwear. Depop also charges a 10% fee for each sale. So if you're "down with the kids" and looking to score some trendy threads, Depop might be the platform for you.

Grailed

Grailed is a marketplace for clothing, with a focus on high-end and designer brands. It has a more limited selection than Poshmark or Mercari, but the prices are generally higher as well. Grailed charges a 9% fee for each sale.

Is Poshmark Legit? Final Thoughts

It comes down to this one final question: is Poshmark legit? Yes, Poshmark is a legit platform for buying and selling secondhand clothes. However, it's not without its drawbacks. As a seller, the fees can be high and the process of listing and shipping items can be time-consuming.

As a buyer, you may find that some sellers are overpriced, and that negotiating prices can be difficult.

If you're looking to make some extra cash by decluttering your closet, Poshmark might be worth a try. Do your research and compare it to other similar platforms before you make your decision. There are many alternatives out there, so take your time and choose the one that's right for you.

Happy shopping!
