Podcast 4: Outsourcing and SEO Services with Tyrone Shum

I recently did an interview with Tyrone Shum about his business. Tyrone has a very interesting background, and of course many of you may be familiar with him from the Niche Site duel that he and Pat Flynn did a while back.
However, I wanted to get some of his history and what he is up to now. So, how does someone go from dragon boat racing to owning an SEO services company? Well, you'll have to listen to the podcast to find out – its an intriguing journey!
We discuss some of his early business ventures while he was attending University and then move onto how he now employees a full-time staff helping out a number of corporate and other clients with their Search Engine Optimization efforts.
In addition, we discuss how Youtube Marketing is turning into a big part of his business. I found this to be particularly interesting.
Overall, here are some of the items or sites that we discussed:
SEO services business
Youtube Marketing

Great podcast Spencer.
It seems to be a running trend that a lot of us internet marketers/SEO guys have dropped-out or just skipped going to college to focus in on our own business. Have you noticed that too?
I wonder if their is a specific character trait that draws people to internet marketing.
I don’t know. Maybe I wished I had skipped out on college 🙂 – but certainly didn’t, went for the masters and everything!
hey spencer,
another good stuff right here! good to see you’re crankin up contents these days. btw, a little OT here, what’s the title of the cool lil outro tune you used in this episode? 😀 it was a little abrupt hearing the tune along with the parting voice, maybe a lil fade would make the bg sound a lil better?
Yep, could have used a little more editing work…glad you liked the song though. It was a royalty free song purchased off of istockphoto.com, but dont’ recall the name. The file name is not the song name when you purchase.
interesting to hear his story. I’ve been watching his Youtube videos and read back over his competition with Pat. GJ Spencer
Cool podcast Spencer.
Useful information. That’s quite the interesting music you got going on there at the end of the podcast too. Never heard someone have that type of thing at the very end of a podcast. Kinda relaxing tunes there :).
Hey Spence, loving the series, I remember when the Niche sit duel was going on, i followed it and tried applying what they were saying, but i did not know how to actually do the keyword research, which caused me to fail and give up for a few months.. but im back at it, and doing so much better!
A little bit through the podcast…I’ve read Tyrone is a master with his outsourcing so I’m looking forward to hearing what he has to say. Still wish there was a transcript, I hate having to pause Pandora while I’m on the computer 😛
Looking forward to future podcasts.

Did you ALSO see his youtube video where he explained he lied about being a 5 figure earner.
Dont believe everything people say they do.
I cant for the life of me understand what your doing interviewing him.
Why did you not go to somebody like Chris Ducker!! a real expert recognized by many other experts. rather than a self propagandist?
regards
Great quality podacsts…real pro!
But word of warning people…Tyrone admitted that he had lied about his figures essentially misleading all his followers so that they would believe he was more successful than he really was.
Then Pat Flynn and Tyrone Shum do the niche site duel…they both seem to have great success with their first attempt…and before making sure its not a fluke, they both go and peddle a $900 course?!?!?! HOW? Did they prove it time and time again like Spencer or AdsenseFlippers! They havent recreated the success.
Look at Pat Flynn’s income reports…his niche site duel site is now making $1800+/m but the rest of his adsense sites combined aren’t making more than $200-300 /m
There is something fishy about that and I’m sure people drinking the SPI coolaid will flog me for this…Spencer, please remain true and honest as I really appreciate your blog!
My niche sites skyrocketed in income after I started leveraging my income and spent more on outsourcing every month. I ended up spending more than half my income on outsourcing and saw my income triple within 3 months. The site that I use most often is thecontentauthority(dot)com.
Since google is after exact match domain. What is your latest approach in niche development?
Still the same. I don’t think you are understanding the EMD updates. EMDs are not bad – just not as good as before…but still good.
