Investing.io is a community made up of people who work and invest in a range of online businesses.
As it states on the homepage, it's a ‘home for entrepreneurs turned investors.' And is further described as a ‘hodgepodge of investing, startup, and online business discussions.'
The community is a place to ask questions, share wins, bat around business ideas, and connect with like-minded online business investors.

Investing.io
Investing.io was founded by Travis Jamison and Richard Patey.
Both of these guys have been hugely successful in online business. They have had significant business exits allowing them to become investors in a wide range of businesses and entrepreneurs.
Travis has been on the podcast before, way back in 2015.
His largest exit has been AMZtracker, which he sold, along with another co-founder, for over $10 million in 2015. AMZTracker is a tool that helps Amazon sellers improve their product listings and rankings on Amazon.
Alongside other highly knowledgeable online business people like Colin Ma, they run this forum and newsletter to the great benefit of the website investing community.
Travis Jamison Podcast
We had Travis Jamison back on the podcast recently to talk about Investing.io.
We cover Travis's 13-year entrepreneurial background, which includes:
- Ecommerce companies
- Smash Digital SEO agency
- Juice Market – a domain flipping service
- Smash.vc – his investing company
- and more
Travis obviously has a diverse background and experience in a range of online business and investing circles.Â
His passion is for the online business world, rather than the stock market and other investment avenues. He has also developed a keen interest in crypto assets.
In this interview, we talk about our business goals, hopes, and aspirations, alongside what drives us to keep going even after finding a measure of success. If you like a little bit of business philosophy, you'll enjoy the chat!
Regarding Investing.io, Travis states that it really is for entrepreneurs turned investors.
Other investing and investment communities tend to talk more about the stock market, finance, forex, and so on. There aren't many (or any?) other high-level investing communities dedicated to the types of online businesses such as we cover here at Niche Pursuits.
Where else can you go for advice when you're looking at purchasing a niche website for $500,000? You want to talk with those who have done it before and know what they're talking about.
Investing.io is filled with entrepreneurs who have had successful exits, are in the industry, or are simply at the top of their game and are investing in their own online businesses.
The Investing.io Community
The platform that Investing.io uses for their forum has the same look and feel as Facebook, without being an actual Facebook group.
It's clean and very easy to navigate and find your way around.
Once inside, there is a wall with the latest posts from the range of ‘spaces' to which you are automatically subscribed.
At this stage, it's not the largest community in the world by any means. There are a little over 200 members.
However, there is a higher level of activity and discussion than you would usually find in such a small group. As the group grows, as it is happening, no doubt the value will increase.
Discussion channels you can take part in:
Investing Channel: The place for any type of discussion – stocks, funds, metals, crypto, VC, real estate, pirate ships, etc.
Online Biz Investing: Anything related to online businesses. Buying/selling, operations, domains, marketing, growth, funds, etc. Share something or ask a question.
Startups: Finding deal-flow, angel investing, syndicates, due diligence, etc. Ask your questions or share your ideas.
Your Investments: Investing in a new fund, purchasing a website, or bullish on a stock? Share what you're up to, get feedback, and help others.
The Watercooler: Casual talk, cat videos, interesting articles, or whatever your heart desires.
Knowledge/Link Share: Share industry news and info.
If it relates to online business and buying and selling websites, there's a lot of interest within the community. Ultimately, that's the common thread and greatest interest of most who are there.
Community Question Examples
When you sign up for the newsletter, the first email contains a list of the types of questions being asked in the community.
They give a good indication of what's going on and whether you might be the right fit.
Here are a few examples of real threads:
- Where are multiples headed for FBA & ecommerce businesses
- Taking a minority stake in a business – How to structure this?
- My experience with the Angellist Access Fund
- Buying private shares on the secondary market?
- Funds for Website Investing?
- Let's chat about inflation risks… and how to protect yourself against it
- How are “content investments” handled by brokers as it relates to valuations?
- Content Website Case Study Update: 95% ROI In 6 Months
- A Beginner's Guide to Valuations & a Toe Dip into Stocks
- When buying a website, do you require the seller to sign a non-compete?
You won't be interested in all the threads, but there's a lot going on and something of interest always pops up.
Investing.io also has a podcast called Website Investing where they interview online business people and share success stories.
Just check out some of the episode titles. If they sound interesting to you, then it's likely the community will be a good fit as well.
The Newsletter
In the podcast, we discuss how Investing.io started as an email newsletter and the forum was added later.
The newsletter is now produced by Juliet Lyall and alerts investors to deals, industry news, and going's on in the community.
It covers:
- Start-up based stuff
- Website investing
- Good stories
- SEO
- Affiliate marketing
Investing.io Review
For the right person, ie. website investors and business people, the Investing.io community is great.
Even if you're not actively investing in online assets, but have simply been really successful in building them, you would fit right in.
You'll recognize many of the names in the group and be able to participate in some really rewarding conversations. There will be those who are much stronger in the areas you know less about, and you'll be able to contribute some serious value as well.
Pros:
- Connect and network with likeminded online business investors
- Learn from the discussions and advice that is shared
- Get support and advice around investing decisions
- Find opportunities to invest in
Cons:
- Currently a small community
If Investing.io sounds like the right community for you, then head on over and submit an application to join. You'll hear back within a few days and be able to start participating in the action!
In our podcast, Travis had a final piece of advice for those starting to build an affiliate site.
It's an astute observation (summarized, not a direct quote):
“Those who live and breathe their niche tend to do the best. You can't hire out someone who really digs into the weeds of a topic and knows all that's going on, from all the different types of content required, to what competitors are doing, to how to best build links. If you can focus on one thing, especially if you already know and love it, you are more likely to build a successful site.”Â
