Introducing Motion Invest: A New Way to Buy and Sell Content Sites

By Spencer Haws |

Imagine you are interested in buying a small affiliate website making roughly $500 a month.

You have a budget that you are willing to invest, now you just need to find a site to buy in that price range.  What you will quickly find is that you are too “small” for the bigger brokers.

Empire Flippers, Quiet Light Brokerage, FEinternational, and other online brokers are much more interested in brokering sites making well over $10,000 a month.  A site making only $500 a month is highly unlikely to get listed on one of these established and quite reputable marketplaces.

You then discover Flippa as a potential option.  But you might just as quickly find that you aren't really sure if you can trust the traffic and earnings of all the sites you see listed.  These numbers aren't independently verified and many people have had less than ideal outcomes when using Flippa.

If you are savvy enough and have the time (and with a little luck) you might be able to find an off-market deal on your own by reaching out to individual sites.  But who knows how many sites you'll have to contact and how many rejections you'll get before you find the right one.

It's a ton of work.

What if there was a place you could go to buy “smaller” content sites that are already making money AND the traffic, earnings, and link profile was already verified for you?

This is exactly what Motion Invest does.

Motion Invest is a venture that I helped co-found along with Jon Gillham and Kelley Van Boxmeer.

Today, I'm officially introducing Motion Invest to the world.  Read on to better understand why we've launched Motion Invest, why it's different, and why we believe it's the best place to buy and sell smaller websites making between $50 and $2,000 a month.

If you are interested in buying or selling a site, check out Motion Invest Here.

Motion Invest is Not a Broker

I want to be very clear: Motion Invest is not a broker.  We are not a marketplace where you can list your own site for sale.

No, motion invest is quite different.

We are only selling sites that we OWN.  In other words, we are actually buying sites and then selling those sites on

So, if you have a site to sell, you are selling it to Motion Invest.  If you are buying a site, you are buying it from Motion Invest – not some other seller.

Again, we are only selling sites that we have already purchased and own outright.

As a result, you don't have to do any calls with potential sellers or if you are selling a site you don't have to potentially deal with dozens of interested parties.  Motion Invest is your only contact.

We believe that this provides a much more streamlined process for you, the buyer or seller.  In addition, it also means that these sites truly are vetted by Motion Invest!  If we get stuck with a “dud” of a site, we already own it, so we truly are stuck with it.

As a result, we are only buying sites that we are comfortable holding.  This is good news for you, since we truly are going through and vetting these sites, rather than just hoping to “make a sale”.

No Brokerage Fees

We are also different in the fact that we don't charge any brokerage fees!  If you sell us your site – no fees.  We agree on a price and we send you the money, that's it.  (Yeah, for keeping all your money!)

If you buy a site from us, we don't have a brokerage fee, listing fee, success fee, or anything else like that.  If you buy a site from us, you just pay the price listed and that's it.

Reduced Risk

Because of the additional due diligence that we perform on each site, the risk is reduced significantly.

If you were to buy an “off-market” site or use Flippa, you may or may not get the full-truth when dealing with a potential seller.  I've heard a ton of stories of people getting scammed on Flippa.

Basically sellers will produce fake screenshots or just inflate reported earnings in order to get a higher price for their site.  Because Flippa is unable to police all of their listings, it truly becomes a buyer beware marketplace.

Because Motion Invest is co-founded by 2 very well known bloggers (Jon and myself), you know we aren't going anywhere.  And even though Kelley isn't as publicly known, she shares the same core-values as us.

We aren't just going to sell you a site and then “skip” town.  You know where to find us!

That puts additional pressure on us, but should help alleviate some of the risk of a transaction for you with Motion Invest.

Why Only Smaller Content Sites?

At Motion Invest, we are very much focused on buying and selling sites making roughly $50 to $2,000 a month.  In addition, we are exclusively focused on content sites.

In other words, you won't see us selling Amazon FBA businesses, SaaS businesses, or other types of sites.  At Motion Invest we have TONS of experience buying, selling, and growing content based websites, primarily monetized with display ads and affiliate sources.

As a result of our expertise in this area, we are going to focus exclusively on these types of sites.

When we take a look at the entire landscape of buying and selling sites, we see a glaring gap in the marketplace for smaller content sites.  As explained in my introduction, there is really no reputable place you can go to buy a site making between $50 to $2,000 a month.

Sure, you might find a few listings on some brokers, but these are mostly few and far between in this price range.  Brokers are certainly not very interested in sites of this size…and they shouldn't be! They will make significantly more money selling a 7-figure business than a site making $500 a month.

The economics just aren't there for a larger brokerage to make these types of sites their main focus.

The only way to make the economics work for a traditional brokerage is to try and do it at scale – which is exactly what Flippa has attempted.  Flippa is a very successful business; however, many of their listings are not sites anyone should be interested in buying.

It's a little bit of a wild west marketplace on Flippa.

So, where can you got to buy a vetted website that is truly making between $50 and $2,000 a month?  Motion Invest.

This is where we fit in the marketplace and we are excited to help you buy and sell sites in this range.

In-depth Due Diligence is Already Completed

I mentioned previously that we do enough due diligence that we are comfortable actually buying the sites.  And that's exactly what we do, we buy the sites and own them outright before they ever get listed on Motion Invest.

However, what kind of due diligence are we doing?  I wanted to give you an idea below.

The screenshot above is a Trello board we are using to vet potential site acquisitions.  I've removed all the site URLs.  However, if you look at the column headers you can start to get an idea of the type of due diligence we are performing before we buy a site.

This is everything we do before we buy a site.

Now, if you want to buy a site from us, we give you all of this due diligence in the listing so you can see what we've already looked at, and you can verify on your own.

This should help you have more confidence in our listings and help you speed up your own due diligence process.

Above is a screenshot of one of the listings on Motion Invest (granted it's a small listing).  But in addition to the SEMrush data, and Backlink Analysis with Majestic, you can also view the earnings, Google Analytics, Ahrefs, and other data a verification for the site.

This significantly speeds up the process for you when making a decision.

Fast Way to Sell Your Sites

If you have a site making between $50 and $2,000 a month, we'd love to take a look.  Because we have a great system in place for due diligence, we can usually make an offer and potentially close a deal within 48 hours.

In addition, we pay all cash upfront.  We are not looking to do some fancy financing or other negotiations.  If we like the site, we'll make you an all-cash offer.

I should also point out that we don't buy every site submitted.  As explained, we have an in-depth due diligence process.

As a result, we've only purchased 10% of all the sites that we've seen so far.  The 3 biggest reasons for not buying a site so far has been: site not making the income threshold, severely declining traffic, and spammy links.

But if you do have a site with real traffic and earnings, we won't hesitate to make you an offer that can close quickly.

Low Friction Buying and Selling

Overall, Motion Invest provides a very low friction process for both buying and selling.

Because you only have to deal with Motion Invest (instead of potentially dozens of other people), we can make quick decisions without a bunch of calls.  In fact, most of our transactions take place without any calls (on either the buy or sell side).

If you want to chat with us via call, we are there for you.  However, we've found that most buyers and sellers know what they are looking for and are happy to communicate via email or chat.

As a result, you'll ideally get a very low friction experience that can either help you buy or sell a site.

Why a Fee to View the Sites?

As I've pointed out, Motion Invest is quite different than a traditional brokerage in many aspects.

One additional way that we are different is how we allow you to view the sites.  The sites are not publicly view-able.

Typical brokerages require some sort of deposit and/or a signed non-disclosure agreement in order to view the sites.

At Motion Invest, we've decided to charge a small monthly subscription fee to view ALL the sites, rather than a deposit for each site you want to view.  Yes, we know this is a bit different.

However, the subscription fee is just $25, so you won't be breaking the bank to view our sites.  This protects us from freebie tire-kickers that just want to see the sites for whatever reason.

But the fee is also low enough that it shouldn't prevent anyone serious enough from buying a site.  As a member, you will get early access to all the sites and will be able to view all the sites as they are listed.

We believe that this small subscription fee provides a more streamlined process than requiring a deposit for each listing that you want to view.  And you are definitely able to cancel your subscription any time.

If you find a site to buy that is just right for you after a month or two, just cancel your subscription to stop paying the monthly fee.  Or if you are a portfolio buyer, just keep your membership active to view all the sites that come through Motion Invest on an ongoing basis.

And to make your decision even easier to check out Motion Invest today, we are offering your first month free!  Yep, you can go check out all the sites we have listed right now if you join using coupon code: Motion2019

So, if you use the coupon code, you get a month free before the regular subscription price kicks it.  Go ahead and check it out at and use coupon code: “Motion2019” to get access to our listings.

Use Coupon Code “Motion2019”

How Many Sites Will Be Listed on Motion Invest?

We wish we knew!  Because we are truly buying sites ourselves, it really depends on how many good sites we find.  When we find the sites and purchase them, we then create the listings.

We've already bought and sold a few sites over the past week before this public launch.  Today we only have a few sites listed for sale and we expect that they will go pretty quick.

However, we are also in the process of verifying dozens of other sites.  Ideally we will be adding a few sites each week and increasing that number over time.  So, while there are only a few sites available for purchase today, we hope that we are listing dozens each month very soon.

You can help that by selling us your site right here! 🙂

Time to Change Buying and Selling Niche Sites

Overall, I'm excited for Motion Invest!  I truly believe that we will are starting a revolution for how small affiliate sites are going to be bought and sold.

We hope to give you brokerage quality for the size of site that you are actually looking for.  If you are hoping to buy a site making $10,000 a month, there are plenty of places willing to give you a white glove service.

However, if you are just hoping to get started with a site making $500 a month, you are essentially ignored by traditional brokers.  We are changing that!  Now we are hoping to make sure you are only seeing sites that are truly vetted in the price range you want.

If you are ready to buy or sell a website, go ahead and visit Motion Invest to learn more.

Wow, I actually love everything about this. The $25 fee to be able to see the sites and purchase them to keep some sort of control on the audience. The fact that you guys are buying the sites yourselves. The monthly income price ranges for the sites. Looks like an industry standard ~36 month multiplier for the sales price, at least on the example that is able to be seen.

I’m working on some projects right now that would definitely fit the criteria for this platform and once I’m more confident in the foundation I’ve built on these sites, selling them is definitely something I am wanting to do and am interested in. I will definitely keep this in mind and keep an eye on the platform. Really hoping this does well and gains major traction.

Spencer Haws

Thanks for the positive feedback, Travis! We feel strongly that there is a gap in the marketplace and we are doing our best to fill the need with Motion Invest. Glad that you like what you see so far!

Alchemy Coder

I have enough experience to run a lot of sites, I just don’t have the time to build them up or manage a team to do so. What I love about Motion Invest is that I can spend the money rather than the time to get started on a new site. This will give me a way to build out my portfolio by investing in sites that I actually own, and I can spend the money rather than the time to get started.

Not to mention the great opportunity for niche site sellers to sell their lower-earning “starter” sites.

Looking forward to using the new service!

My bad, I do see now you are only selling your own websites – so is there an opportunity here for affiliates to sell sites to you? Or maybe down the line…

Spencer Haws

Yes, affiliates can sell their sites to us! We are definitely buying as many good sites as we can. So, if someone has a site making between $50 and $2,000 a month, we will make an offer and can buy it in as little as 48 hours.

Wow…truly genius.

People paying $25/mo for nothing, lol.
You literally getting people sending you sites to buy, so you always get first dibs on the ones with potential to keep and grow for yourself
Leaving the hopeless sites to the desperate masses at a crazy markup multiplier (but don’t worry – no fees!).
This isn’t a website selling service, it’s a flipping business for you and your business partner to offload the scraps you didn’t want.

And all wrapped in a message of filling a need and providing a service to people.

I’ve followed you for many years, Spencer, what happened?

Spencer Haws

I would hold the early judgement on the business until it’s been around longer than a month at least :). The plan is not to keep the “good” sites and sell the “bad” sites. The purpose is to fulfill the need in the marketplace I laid out in the post above.

Spencer Haws

Thanks AC! Buying sites is a GREAT way to get started, which is a point that I didn’t really cover in the post today. However, buying and growing sites is a faster and “safer” way to get a site making money. I love building sites from scratch, but it’s a huge time investments. Both have their pros and cons.

mark ketzler

What kind of prices can we expect as sellers to you? I am sure the valuation has more components than just revenues but can you provide a range? Multiples of monthly trailing revenues.

Spencer Haws

Each site is case by case. However, we buy lower than we sell. Also keep in mind that as a seller, we won’t charge you any brokerage fees on the transaction. Brokers will typically charge sellers up to 15%.

Great ideas Spencer! I think its great for buyer and seller and this major gap will reduce due to small fee.

I m struggling to get more traffic and hopefully one day i will use motion invest.

Spencer Haws

Thanks! I appreciate the positive feedback. Good luck growing your site!

I love this! We’ve been looking for months at Empire Flippers for our first content site to buy, but weren’t finding a lot in our price range (<$2K profit/mo) and what was there went so quickly we missed out. We got VERY lucky last month to find just the right site on Flippa with a very helpful and reputable seller. Now that we've done it once, we've caught the bug and want to buy a smaller site to grow. We almost bid on a Flippa listing yesterday, but then I uncovered something that didn't sit right and we elected not to bid. I feel like we probably dodged a bullet there, so your new venture could be the perfect way for us to build our portfolio!

Spencer Haws

Thanks Sarah! Glad you love the idea. We should definitely continue to add sites in your price range :). Thanks!

Dave Chesson

This is amazing and extremely needed in the industry. You’re right to make it like that and I’ve immediately signed up. Looking forward to adding some legit assets to my already existing portfolio.

Spencer Haws

Thanks Dave! Glad to hear we aren’t the only ones that felt like this was a big need in the industry.

Brad Kelly

I like the idea. but if everything is free then why $25 a month fee? i might be interested to sell a site or 2 and then build more , now that recurring fee is not a good idea in my opinion.

Spencer Haws

There is no fee to sell us a site. The fee is only to view the potential sites you want to buy.

Sajan Kota

Hi Spencer,

Thanks for sharing the useful, I totally agree with you, websites listed on flippa are not verified and can not be trusted. I, myself had a terrible experience buy money making websites on flippa. I love the concept of Motion Invest, where no Saas , no Amazon affiliate website. the price range from $50 to $2000. Keep up the good work.

Spencer Haws

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on Flippa. Unfortunately, that is not unusual. Glad you love the concept of Motion Invest!

Ray Roman

I can personally attest to the professionalism of Jon Gillham. I sold Jon a site several years ago and it was a very smooth process. He truly knows what he is doing and was very honest and responsive in his dealings with me. I look forward to joining MotionInvest.

Spencer Haws

Thanks for letting us know your experience with Jon! He’s a stand up guy and definitely knows what he’s doing.

Sounds like a great idea and you have definitely found a gap in the market! I look forward to purchasing a site very soon!

Spencer Haws

Thanks Justin!

Ryan Kangail

This is really cool. I’ve been contemplating trying to buy a site that’s already in the groove of making some money, but as you’ve mentioned, other brokers don’t cover this price range well…

I’ll definitely be watching the listings like a hawk… also, is it possible to make a lower offer for a site that is available?

Thanks for everything!

Spencer Haws

Thanks Ryan! You can always make an offer, but so far we haven’t needed to negotiate our prices.

Ryan Kangail

Also, any chance you accept bitcoin for purchases?

Spencer Haws

No bitcoin for now.

do you only buy and sell websites with content in english?

Spencer Haws

Currently, yes.

Good to see your new initiative. The concept is different and I’m sure it will work well. \

Do you have the formula to calculate the selling price?

Interesting. I just submitted a site for sale. Do you buy sites and simply resell them at a higher price or do you keep them for a bit, improve them and raise the value?

Btw, all links to Motion Invest are broken and you end up on a 404 page.

Spencer Haws

Thanks for the heads up on the 404 page, fixed! Yes, we primarily buy and sell. But since all sites might not sell, we make sure to only buy sites that we would be comfortable holding and growing.

Ajie Wicaksono

Thanks, but i think, invest on domain name is really better than build some sites. Like, we have huge domain for a political name who want to election.

but, i’ll try it. Thanks!

Amazing post! Thanks for sharing this useful information. keep writing I waiting for your articles

Hi Spencer…
I submitted a site for appraisal…sent over all earnings etc, any chance someone can get back to me?
Is there a backlog?

Kiril Valtchev

Great stuff, I feel like this along with EmpireFlippers is the way to go instead of the scammy sites that attempt to get sold on Flippa.

Ashley Casey

Trust me. I didn’t see anything like this, They are totally unprofessional and irresponsible. After submitting my website for valuation I didn’t get any quick reply from them. After one or two month later they told me to send my website details. After checking everything they offered me a price but I told them a little bit higher from their offered price.

And then they send me an agreement paper with their sign and they told me to sign and send back to them. After doing this they stop replying, I send them few email and they told me that they are not interesting to buy this website with this price.

If they are not interested then why the send me Agreement paper?

Spencer Haws

There must have been some missed emails. We always send an automated email when you submit a site for review that explains the process. Usually we respond in 2 to 3 days (at most) with a review and an offer.
