Vin started Word Agents back in 2014. But his entrepreneurial journey started long before that.
Even as a child he was the one selling candy in school and doing lemonade stands on the weekends. During his teenage years he was flipping things on eBay that he would find at garage sales.
Then he read the 4 Hour Workweek and discovered digital marketing. Along the way he tried a few things that either didn't work or broke even. Then in 2008 to 2010 he discovered Wicked Fire forums and other blogs (including Niche Pursuits!) that got him thinking more about niche sites and affiliate marketing.
He sold his first site for $4,000 in 2012. He continued to build sites but also started writing for other people to help make a little extra money.
His little side hustle of writing for other people started to grow and he needed to hire people to keep up with demand and officially launched Word Agents in 2014.

How successful is your business today?

What failure did you experience that perhaps made you doubt your future as an entrepreneur?
In Vin's words…
My biggest failures were always based around me not getting out of my own way. It took being in business for 5+ years to hit $1m in revenue simply because I wasn’t delegating enough tasks. I tried to do everything myself.
Trying to do everything myself had negative consequences beyond a lack of time. I was overwhelmed, which lead me to be short with my staff and clients. I often dropped the ball on little tasks that I felt weren’t important (they were).
Learning to systemize procedures, hire correctly, and delegate completely changed the business. I went from fear of failure to lots of optimism for the future.
What are 1 or 2 strategies that have made your business successful?
Systemize everything. This includes systemizing how we go about creating and updating new systems.
Track everything. Marketing attribution and financial dashboarding basically tells you exactly what actions you need to take to maximize on any money the business is spending.
What has been the most effective marketing strategies you've used to grow WordAgents?
- Email newsletters / marketing – Working with our existing list to promote repeat business
- Paid media – Fb ads and Google retargeting
- LinkedIn – cold messaging and follower growth
- Cold email – targeting specific sets of our demographic with offers that will appeal to them
So far, email marketing and cold email have been the most effective since we relaunched in April. But, that’s due to them being the easiest to start. Paid media is beginning to get “dialed in,” and I assume that will be our most effective marketing vehicle.
Where do you hope to take your business in the future?
We just relaunched Word Agents as a productized service in April 2020. We’re spending the rest of 2020 optimizing this core product – affordable, SEO optimized content at scale.
2021 and beyond will bring add-on and complementary service offerings such as WordPress posting, correlational SEO optimization (surferseo), graphic design, and more.
